Overview
Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, with a history of more than 2400 years, owes its importance to the fact that it was the gateway to the celebrated Silk Road that facilitated trade with Tibet, Sichuan, Myanmar and India. Today the city is the political, economical and cultural center of Yunnan province and has become the most popular center for tourism in Southwest China. Golden Temple
Located on top of Mingfeng (Singing Phoenix) Hill is the home of the Taoist Taihe Palace (Hall of Supreme Harmony), which is the largest copper temple in China. It is also known as the Tongwa Temple (Bronze Tile Temple) and by its popular name, the Golden Temple.The history of the Golden Temple starts during the Ming Dynasty and the reign of the Emperor Wanli in 1602. Since its last renovation, this beloved copper temple on the top of Mingfeng Hill has been well cared and has become the most famous Taoist shrine in Yunnan Province.
Stone Forest
The Stone Forest, known since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.) as the ""First Wonder of the World"", is in Lunan Yi Nationality Autonomous County, which is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Kunming and requires only a three-hour drive. Being one of the National Scenic Resorts in China, Stone Forest Scenic Resort has a complete range of karst forms. It covers an area of 400 square kilometers (96,000 acres) and includes both large and small stone forests, as well as many other scenic spots.
Daguan Park
Daguan, which means ""the grand view"", is the most befitting name for the park and the pavilion which are on the terminus of Daguan Road in the southwest of Kunming city, Daguan Park and Daguan Pavilion.
Daguan Park locates on the shore of Dianchi Lake and faces the Western Hills which are on the other side of Dianchi Lake. Daguan Park became an attraction from then on and the most famous spot among them is the Daguan Pavilion.
Bird and Flower Market
The famous Flowers and Birds Market in Jingxing Street is the city's biggest, most attractive shopping market where spring reigns all year. Since 1983 the Flowers and Birds Market has gradually been built into a comprehensive public spot for leisure, shopping, and trading. Strolling on the market street, you can see shops and stalls of all sorts, especially those featuring flowers, birds, and fish. The Flowers and Birds Market is also a popular trading place for antiques. Curios, coins, jade articles, jewelry, ink stones, porcelains, potteries, stone carvings, and marble products are among the arts and crafts to be found there.

Tongpa
""Tongpa"" refers to the satchel. The Dai, Yi, Hani, Jingpo, Wa, Lisu and De'ang people produce and use it. Most of them are made of cotton fabrics, decorated with woven patterns, embroideries, cross-stitch works and applique. It has a wide variety of patterns.
Dali Bandhnu
It is also known as plangi or tied colorful cloth and is mainly produced in Zhouchen in Dali, Dacang and Miaojie in Weishan. With pure white cottoncloth or white cotton-hemp cloth as the raw materials, and indigo as dyestuff, bandhnu is produced after many working procedures. The patterns on Dali bandhnu are commonly seen plants and animals, white patterns on a blue background.
Tengchong Jade Objects
Tengchong jade objects are the renowned traditional handicrafts of Yunnan with a long history. There are a wide variety of jade products, such as bracelets, hairpins and brooches. They are sold to the countries in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau.
Gejiu Tin Handicrafts
With pure tin as raw materials, Gejiu tin handicrafts are produced through many special working procedures, such as smelting, pressing, cutting, cleaning, welding, polishing, decoration and carving. The tin handicrafts are acid-proof, alkali-resisting, and nonpoisonous, without smell.
#Dai Brocade##Dai brocade, which shows an ancient textile technique, is known for its high-quality weaving technique, unique patterns, beautiful colors, and a strong ethnic style. Sturdy and durable, Dai brocades have various kinds of patterns, such as rare birds and animals, the five cereals (rice, two kinds of millets, wheat and beans) and flowers. Each pattern with different colors has its own concrete contents.##Bornite Handicrafts##There are two kinds of bornite articles-raw and wrought bornite products. Raw bornite products are processed with natural bornite ores. As bornite ores are rare, there are few raw bornite products. Wrought bornite products are made through unique smelting and casting, with a wide variety of products, such as rare birds, strange beasts, flowers, mountains and rivers. The others draw materials from fairy tales and legends, such as immortal mountains, jade pavilions, historical figures, each glowing with radiating vigor.

The Stone Forest
Scenic Area is located in Shilin County, 89 kilometers from Kunming. The area, covering 350 square kilometers, is the highest karst terrain in the world and a national scenic area in China. In the scenic area one can see stone forest, known as "No. 1 wonder under heaven." Unique natural sights and Sani folklore are characteristics of the Stone Forest Scenic Area. Tourists can visit Sani villages, buy folk embroidery handicrafts of the Sani people, and watch folk dances in the evening. Torch Festival of the Yi falls on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month.
Dianchi
It is also called as Kunming Lake, is located southwest of downtown Kunming. It is a freshwater fault lake at an altitude of 1,886.5 meters above sea level. The lake covers 298 square kilometers. It is 39 kilometers long from north to south, and the average depth is 4.4 meters. Dianchi Lake is one of China's key scenic areas. Tourist navigation lines have been developed from the lake to Grand View Park, Haigeng, Yunnan Ethnic Village and Western Hill Forest Park.
Cuihu Park
The Cuihu Lake Park, situated at the western foot of Wuhua Hill, is a scenically beautiful park inside the city. By the end of the Yuan Dynasty, it was still a swampy field for growing vegetables, lotuses and rice, hence the name "Vegetable Lake". The water-level of Dianchi Lake was then so high that it was connected with the Cuihu Lake.
Grand View Park
Grand View Park is named after a famous structure called Grand View Tower. The park used to be a private garden owned by the Mu family. 1n 1690 the provincial governor Wang Jiwen ordered the garden expanded, and towers and pavilions were constructed. Gradually it was developed to a tourist attraction. Now the park is divided into three tourist areas.
Night Life
Kunming is often regarded as the forth pub city in China and a great city for nightlife in southwestern China. Pub culture in Kunming is totally different to that in Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai. Soft rock style bars are popular and going out is a very relaxed affair, much in fitting with the easy-going natures of local people.
The nightlife in Kunming begins just as the clock strikes nine. Kunming bars are not large but they are intense and busy.
Kundu
Kundu is the nightlife paradise of Kunming which lies many Blues Bars and KTVs. The area around Golden Horse and Jade Cock (Jinma Biji) Memorial Archways also attracts many young people.
Cha Ma Bar
Cha Ma Bar is located inside the courtyard garden of Camellia Hotel. Cha Ma means “Caravan Bar†in English. In terms of photography collection, this is a good place to get more idea of Yunnan history.
